Joe and I are safely home after a long day of flying and waiting to fly. Casey and Shea are off to Amsterdam, Paris and Italy. I thought I add a few more blogs about things I found interesting in Ireland.
Bikes of course make me think of my dad. Lots of bicycles everywhere in Ireland and plenty in Dublin where I think they take their life in their hands (or on their bikes so to speak) on a daily basis. The Irish ride bikes a lot, but there are also lots of tourists biking about the country side, and in Dublin, for example, there are rows of bikes you can rent for the day. On the Aran Island of Inishmore, you can rent a tandem if you prefer. Lots of people walking as well - very few truly overweight people in Ireland. We walked most everywhere in Dublin and other towns as well as our tourist hikes - my blood sugars were great despite the frequent eating of scones, brown bread and chocolate.
Bike in Dublin with a child's seat on the crossbar.
Tourist, I assume, biking his way across Ireland
This bike on Inishmore looks to have seen better days. The home owner returned while we were waiting for our ride and he appeared to have very limited vision so perhaps he is no longer safe to bike around the island.
Bikes out in front of the fairly fancy hotel we stayed at in Ennis.
Cute little bike decoration in a window
Serious Irish bikers - reminded me of Dad. He told Joe he has long been an avid biker.
Bikers in Dublin. Lots of bicyclists wore reflective vests - a good safety idea.
A postal bike I spotted in Dublin. Many Irish letter boxes has signs posted that said "No junk mail please" Wonder if that would work here.
On the right you can see the row of bikes and bike racks in Dublin center.
