Happy New Year / Shea and the boy cousins

HAPPY NEW YEAR

I am missing the nieces and nephews, not to mention my brother, sister, sister-in-law and dad, but I am also happy to be safely home. It was in the 20s when we left Seattle and 60, rainy and windy when we landed in Chicago. A very rough landing which scared me quite a bit. As Shea explained, "Mom, you don't want to do a level landing in heavy cross winds, you'll get blown off the runway." Not very comforting. Then we left Chicago 30 minutes late due to waiting for several passengers from other delayed planes. Landing in Louisville was fine, we managed to load up the car and get on our way. Shortly outside of Louisville, however, I saw blue flashing lights in my rear view. Apparently I was going all of 5 miles over the speed limit (60 in a 55 construction zone at 10:30 at night without a construction worker in sight) He gave me a warning and told me slow down. It occurred to me it was New Years Eve and he was looking for drunks. I was pretty careful with the speed limits after that. Then we tried to stop at Arby's for a late dinner, but it was closed and so we went to the McDonald's across the street. Somehow my diet Coke became a regular Dr. Pepper and Casey's Girl's Hamburger Happy Meal became a cheese burger. Fortunately Shea's burger did come sans bun. We made it to Cindy's New Year's party 2 minutes before midnight.

Shea had a great time on our vacation and the boy cousins especially decided he was quite the hero. They enjoyed using him as a shield in nerf wars, climbing on him, playing video games on his new phone and generally chasing him around. Shea seemed to be having fun too. He said he'd like to go back in the summer for a longer visit.
