Bionic knees

So by the end of my 6 days in NYC with miles of walking and going up and down subway stairs at least 4 times a day (remember - 468 subway stations in NYC and 69 of them are handicap accessible...plus, when you do find an elevator you have to hope no one's used it for a toilet recently), I found that I could hardly put weight on my right knee.  I had somehow hurt it in Portland, so I had a knee brace and a cane with me, but 20 year old students are hard to keep up with.  I saw the orthopedic surgeon after returning to Kentucky and he said that not only was my meniscus torn but also the middle side (medial), knee end (distal) of the thigh bone (femur) was swollen and dying.  i.e. I have serious arthritis in my right knee.  Not a surprise.  So March 9th I will be having a right partial knee replacement.  I'm actually kind of looking forward to it since my left knee replacement held up well under the tortures of getting around in NYC.  So that will be my Spring Break.
A few more NYC pics
Took this photo through the bus window that had sun shading on it for this eerie pic

 Different looking bike lock

 Minions at Build-A-Bear(for Casey)

Looked like a fun party on this roof top.
 Old smoke stack.

Cranes and construction everywhere.  I feel fortunate there were no crane accidents while we were in NYC.  We did have some pretty windy days.

I loved all the colorful building decoration..

Not sure how people sleep on subways, but you see this a lot.

I just loved the juxtaposition of these serious business men in front of this formally dressed polar bear.

Patterns for an arty photo.
