In between acquiring kittens, Casey and I went to the Newport Aquarium and Fountain Square across the river in Cincinnati for a Deaf Awareness day that was in part sponsored by the Cincinnati State program for Sign Interpreting Although I had recently been to the Aquarium, Casey had not. We had a good time going through the aquarium and really enjoyed watching the sign interpreting students in action and all the young children who Casey commented could sign so much better than herself. There were families with a deaf child, but the rest of the family could sign and families with two deaf parents and hearing children (CODA - Children of Deaf Adults) who clearly had ASL as their first language and English as their second language. After the aquarium, we headed over to Cincinnati to the Silent Takeover They had ASL Idol (take off on American Idol) which was pretty amazing.
