Dr. John Chang

Dr. John Chang died this week.  He was smart and funny and supportive.  I am not sure what age I was when the Chang family became a part of my family - grade school I would guess.  John worked at TRW with my father, I played with and babysat his children, my mother and his then wife Kitty were best friends.  Over the years John was a steady friend to my father, employed my brother, and supported my efforts to obtain my doctoral degree.  I loved bouncing around ideas with him.  Not long after my mother died, John had surgery which resulted in physical limitations.  He came to live with my father for almost a year.  I know that many may view this as an act of kindness on my father's part, but I saw John's ability to allow my father to help him as a saving grace for my father in a time of need.  John and Dad worked together, admired their grandchildren together, ate dinner together most Thursday nights at the Good Stuff restaurant on Redondo Beach.  I always felt John's sincere interest in my family and appreciated his genuine friendship with my father.  He will be greatly missed.

One of my favorite pics of John - he looks so happy.
